We are a school of traditional Shotokan karate where we emphasize three important areas of learning.
Basics: (punches, kicks, blocks, strikes and stances). Forms: better referred to as defensive paradigms and Tegumi: two person drills.
With Basics many repetitions are important at the beginner stage but is our belief and practice that excessive repetitions becomes boring and even detrimental to developing proper technique. More time is spent on how and why the body moves in concert with the basic techniques.
Our Forms (Kata) are actually universal rituals through which random acts of physical violence can be safely addressed.
Tegumi is used to re-enact the corresponding acts of physical violence address in our kata
You are also taught how to avoid confrontations by way of self-control,. Confidence,.self-respect and truly believing in yourself. By channeling your ego, physical violence could be reduced to pure chance.
Our classes are developed for all ages and skill levels, male and female. The Instructors Staff has vast experience in teaching ADD and ADHD students and the organization also offers classes for
Special Needs children. Children who are Home Schooled and need a source of physical activity will find our classes an excellent way to develop confidence, conditioning and strength. Children teenagers and adults who are not drawn to organized sports or health clubs will find our school an attractive alternative.
Many Police, Military Security Personnel and Security Guards fail to receive additional training in restraint and control upon leaving their academy or school. Our organization and this school train in these principles that have been taught and developed by Hanshi Patrick McCarthy, 8th degree black belt and founder of Koryu-Uchinadi and the IRKRS. NORTHEAST SHOTOKAN is a member club of the IRKRS and we include this training for all students.
NORTHEAST SHOTOKAN’S training and testing syllabus has been developed by the senior staff of our Technical/Instructors committee and all of these instructors were JKA trained as well as tested. They have also completed a college level instructors training course from Long Island University developed and headed by Milorad V. Stricevic, M.D. |
